Ingredient Details

Acetylcholine = A white crystalline compound released from the ends of nerve fibers and
involved in the transmission of nerve impulses.

Acid mantle / lipid barrier = A protective oily layer on the skin's surface which functions as a
protectorate against environmental impurities and helps regulate moisture loss and water retention.

Activated Charcoal = Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated with oxygen to open up
millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. A material attaches itself by chemical attraction
and it is adsorbed. The huge surface area of activated charcoal gives it countless bonding sites.
Activated charcoal is good at trapping other carbon-based impurities ("organic" chemicals), as well
as things like chlorine. Many other chemicals are not attracted to carbon at all -- sodium, nitrates,
etc. -- so they pass right through. This means that an activated charcoal filter will remove certain
impurities while ignoring others, so it doesn't break down your acid mantle. This makes Activated
Charcoal fabulous for acneic skin.

Alginates = Components that provide moisture and elasticity to the skin.

Allantoin (Ureidohydantoi-Comfrey) = Allantoin is an extract of the comfrey plant and is used
for its healing, soothing, and anti-irritating properties.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) = Have exfoliation and therapeutic properties which help with, and
minimize photo damaged skin, which is a major contributing factor to aging. Apart from ridding
the skin of unnecessary dead cells, they also have a moisturizing effect on the skin, by increasing
the moisture content of the upper skin and so smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, as well as
reducing dryness and combating flakiness. Long-term use of low concentration AHA's can also
increase collagen and elastin synthesis, and also boost protein regeneration in the skin. Alpha
Hydroxy Acids used by von Natur include: Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid and Glycolic
Acid. Naturally AHA’s occur in Bilberry Extract, Lemon Extract, Orange Extract, Sugar Cane
Extract and Sugar Maple Extract.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (Thioctic Acid) = Powerful antioxidant that is active against a broad
spectrum of free radicals in both water as well as oil surroundings. It is readily transported through
cellular membranes and helps to recycle other antioxidants. For instance, when vitamin E
quenches lipid peroxidation, and a vitamin E radical is formed, alpha lipoic acid will reduce it back
to the active state of vitamin E. The same reaction occurs in the presence of the antioxidant,
vitamin C. Human cell consists of various parts, and these parts are either water or lipid based.
Alpha Lipoic Acid this can work to protect against free radical damage. If the concentration and
presence of free radicals can be contained within the cell, far less oxidative stress and damage will
be caused to the skin. This will result in aging being retarded at cellular level, as oxidative stress is
one of the leading causes of wrinkles.

Aloe Juice = Used to relieve burning, itching, minor cuts, and first and second degree burns.
Recent studies indicate that Aloe Vera has the ability to accelerate cell growth in the skin, by
penetrating the skin and stimulating the immune system & increasing blood circulation. Its anti-
aging effects are due to increase in collagen synthesis & skin elasticity.

skincare products. Antioxidants also, protect the skin cells from being damaged by attacking free
radicals, and slow down the aging process. They have been shown to boost the skin’s radiance,
minimize age spots, sun spots and fine lines. Antioxidants used by von Natur include: Alpha
Lipoic Acid, Vitamin A, B3, B Complex, C and E, and Red, Green & White Teas.

Polysorbate 20 = Excellent non-ionic emulsifier enabling water & oil to mix. Solubilizer and
stabilizer of essential oils

Our supplier uses Polysorbate 20 as an emulsifier for our water based products because it is the gentlest version of all the Polysorbates. However, Polysorbate 20 may not be the most effective emulsifier on the market. Because of this our toners, astringents, body mists and splashes might have some separation that occurs from time to time. Some essential oils will vary from batch to batch and cause separation in one batch but not in another batch. Citrus and lavender essential oils are the most common essential oils to separate from the base. Since want to produce the best and safest products on the market, it is true that in some cases we chose to compromise the appearance of the finished product in order to not compromise in safety for our consumers.
Polysorbate 20 is nonionic which is critical when you are using essential oils. It does not disrupt the properties of the essential oils by creating ionic bonds which are formed when two or more atoms give up electrons. A nonionic bond does not borrow electrons which is preferable when using essential oils. Ionic bonds are stronger and do not separate in solution, but they do disrupt the properties of the essential oils. For this reason our supplier chose to use Polysorbate 20 over any other emusifier on the market.

Polyunsaturated = belonging to a class of fats, especially plant oils, that are less likely to be
